Gary Bentley- "In the Black: A Contemporary Miners Story

Gary Bentley is the author of the Daily Yonder's rural blog, ": In the Black"-- a personal, unflinching, sometimes controversial, but always eloquent reflection on his own life as an underground coal miner.

Bentley’s personal accounts of life underground aim to take his readers beyond the two stereotypes he sees most often: that of Evil King Coal” where coal strips the land and people of everything they love; and “the romantic miner”—the images conjured by depression-era black-and-white photos of men posing with picks and shovels and lunch buckets in hand.
Join us for a conversation with Mr. Bentley- including readings from some of his blogs
