Social media has created a world in which communication with others is only the push of a button away, while in many cases reducing the depth of that communication. NYT Best-selling author and MIT Research Scientist William Powers will explain how to use this new interconnectedness wisely in his Chautauqua Lecture and EKU Reads Project Keynote Address, “Deeper Digital: A New Philosophy of Social Media,” TOMORROW, Thursday, Oct. 15, at 7:30 p.m. in Brock Auditorium of the Coates Building. Free and open to the public. Attendance slips will be provided. Sponsored by the EKU Reads Project, First Year Programs, EKU Libraries, Information Technology, and the Honors Program. The Advanced Technical Intelligence Center (ATIC), Beavercreek (OH), offers a 10-week Analyst Bootcamp program, followed by a 4 to 5 week internship in intelligence analysis. EKU students may receive up to 12 EKU credits for completing the ATIC semester long program for HLS 401, GEO 456, HLS 403 and a 3-credit internship in the student's major. ATIC tuition is $5,000 and the student is responsible for all room, board, and transportation costs. Students can attend the ATIC program and obtain 12 credits-thus not losing a semester toward graduation-for a similar cost to a semester at EKU. ATIC also provides the student a US government security clearance and keeps the clearance active until the student graduates and looks for a position in the intelligence community. ATIC graduates have a high job placement rate. Applications are now being received for ATIC spring and summer 2016 semesters.
