This event is put together every spring semester before spring break to promote and encourage safe sex. We will be giving away fanny packs, sunglasses, tons of condoms, and 10 awesome prize baskets. Matthew Pianalto is Professor of Philosophy at EKU, where he teaches introductory ethics, philosophy, animal ethics and environmental ethics, as well as Honors Rhetoric and topical seminars such as “Sound and Sense: How Music Means” with the Honors Program. He is the author of the philosophical monograph, On Patience, published by Lexington Books in 2016, plus 20 articles and essays. His essay on “Moral Courage and Facing Others” was selected as the winner of the inaugural Robert Papazian Annual Essay Prize on Themes from Ethics and Political Philosophy by the International Journal of Philosophical Studies in 2012. His piece on “Ethics Beyond Sentience” was included in The Chautauqua Journal Vol. 1 (2016). Pianalto was recognized as an EKU Critical Thinking Teacher of the Year in 2015. Volunteers from all majors can join us at various times from Tuesday, 3/24 through Sat. 3/28 for tasks related to EKU hosting the Kentucky Science & Engineering Fair. Weeknight volunteers are needed on-campus for organizing registration packets. Friday volunteers are needed to number tables, post signage, do safety inspections of displays and to support registration. Saturday volunteers are needed for safety checks, registration, distributing lunch, award printing, and welcoming guests. Thank you letters can be sent to individuals, student orgs, or national offices recognizing philanthropy. Saturday volunteers receive a shirt and lunch. The Kentucky Science & Engineering Fair is one of EKU's best opportunities to showcase our campus and the work of Kentucky’s best and brightest students in grades 5-12. You are cordially invited to present your research at EKU's second annual Social Science Undergraduate Research Symposium. Undergraduate students, graduate students, faculty and community members engaged in community research are all encouraged to present their research and or attend this free event. Presenters and attendees may attend as many or a few fifty minute sessions as desired. Our theme for this symposium is Health and Justice in Appalachia. We encourage submissions on this theme, although research and discussions on any aspect of social science will be gladly accepted.
