PLC: Critical Reading
Critical reading is a foundational skill for success in college, yet students often can't or don't read assigned texts in the ways instructors expect. As instructors, we can often be unclear about our role in helping to develop students’ critical reading habits. Using a multidisciplinary study, Critical Reading in Higher Education, and Reading Apprenticeship pedagogy, professional learning community (PLC) participants will examine the role of reading in their disciplinary courses, learn strategies for explicit instruction in metacognitive critical reading and design critical reading assignments and assessments that measure student learning. Facilitated by QEP Co-Director Jill Parrott.
