PLC: Ungrading: Intrinsic Motivation and Collaborative Learning Across the Disciplines
Ungrading, within the context of this Professional Learning Community (PLC), refers to any change in teaching that shifts the focus away from grades. In previous PLCs, these changes have ranged from entirely gradeless classrooms to a single ungraded assignment. Research has shown that grades limit creativity, discourage marginalized students and undermine evaluative feedback. Students internalize grades, comparing themselves to others, putting extrinsic rewards above their interests and needs. But how can ungraded approaches and gradeless classrooms be used practically? Participants will answer this question in a workshop setting.
