TLI: In Their Shoes: Real Life Barriers Student Parents Face and Strategies Needed to Break Through

Participants will be introduced to the needs of the universities "breakaway learners" through the work of Dr. Karen Gross's book “Breakaway Learners: Strategies for Post-Secondary Success with At-Risk Students." They will learn how postsecondary institutions can change breakaway students outcomes for success by helping to incorporate the concept of elasticity into our work with them. This presentation will be through the lens of working with student parents, but the concepts are interchangeable for any breakaway learner.
