The Future of Personality Disorders (Psychology Colloquium)

After decades of pointed criticism from the scientific community, the personality disorder (PD) diagnostic landscape is finally shifting toward a dimensional approach. The ICD-11 will characterize PD using an overall impairment severity dimension, as well as five trait domain qualifiers to articulate manifestation. The DSM-5 has included an Alternative Model of Personality Disorders (AMPD) since 2013. The presentation will describe conceptual issues, scientific support, and assessment and clinical utility considerations for dimensional models of personality disorders.
