Dr. Christa Slaton, the third of three finalists to become EKU’s next Senior Vice President for Academics and Provost, is visiting the Richmond campus today. An open forum will be held from 1:30 to 2:30 p.m. in Brock Auditorium.

Finalists Dr. John Omachonu and Dr. Scott Furlong visited campus earlier this week. For links to live streams and archived forum videos, information about the finalists and their full itineraries, visit Faculty, staff and students can also access the forum videos and evaluations through EKU Direct.

Today's live stream will be available as an archived video as soon as possible after the conclusion of the forum at the above website, which will also include evaluation forms for each candidate. All videos and evaluation forms will be available until 8 p.m. today (Friday, April 21).

This quarter ends April 28 for the Wellness Credit. All workshops must be completed by the end of April to receive the Wellness Credit.

Two on-campus options are still available: the Healthy YOU 5K April 21 at the EKU Track at lunch and after work, and the "Get off The Grass and Meditate" event April 25 from 6 to 7 p.m. at the Ravine.

The Department of Government and Economics will host its last research workshop of the 2016-17 academic year.

We're planning to discuss papers, chapters or books that will be submitted to a peer-reviewed outlet. In this workshop, we'll discuss the following paper:

Wilson, Darrin. "Economic Diversification and Economic Development in Appalachia"

Discussants: Drs. Jeongwoo Kim and Randall Swain

After the discussants, we're planning to have a Q&A session.

The Departments of Computer Science and Mathematics and Statistics will host the 30th annual EKU Symposium in the Mathematical, Statistical and Computer Sciences today, April 21. Registration will begin at 8:30 a.m. Opening remarks begin at 9 a.m. The invited speaker is Dr. Ashish Srivastava, from St. Louis University. He will speak from 11 a.m. to noon. Morning sessions will last from 9:20 to 10:55 a.m. Afternoon sessions will be from 1:30 p.m. to 3:05 p.m. The awards ceremony will be from 3:15 to 3:30 p.m.

Kenta studies with Dr. Bernardo Scarambone, director of piano studies in the EKU School of Music. Kenta's program will include works by Beethoven and Chopin, as well as original compositions. It will also feature guest artists for the original compositions.

Under the direction of Dr. Joyce Hall Wolf, the EKU Opera will present its spring production "The Merry Wives of Windsor."

"The Merry Wives of Windsor" is an opera in three acts by Otto Nicolai to a German libretto by Salomon Hermann Mosenthal based on the play by William Shakespeare.

Two performances: Friday, April 28, at 7:30 p.m., and Saturday, April 29, 2 p.m.

EKU School of Music and the EKU Bluegrass Ensemble invite you to join them in a fun, fresh, entertaining concert. The ensemble will present traditional bluegrass favorites, and some not so traditional selections played in the bluegrass style. Members of this ensemble are: Isaac Brooks, mandolin, banjo and guitar; Kevin Case, guitar; Tyler Monell, upright bass; Devin Smith, fiddle; Taylor Wells, vocals; and their coach, Pam Perry Combs, guitar, mandolin and banjo.

The event is free.

Each year alumni members of the EKU Choir gather for music, fun and fellowship. The public is invited. Dr. Richard Waters, director of choral studies, and the EKU Choirs will also participate in this event.
