Tired of hearing "crickets" while you sit in your office waiting for students to come see you? On your syllabus, replace “Office Hours” with “Student Hours” to give today’s students a better sense of your availability, prompt conversations about when and why to come see you, and remove some of the mystery of why student (office) hours exist. It will help students see you as more approachable and will open a door to crucial conversations later. Give it a try. Hold "Student Hours" this semester.
