MATH/STAT COFFEE TIME: Quantifying Cancer Burden, Relevant Risk Factors, and Prevention in Kentucky

The Department of Mathematics & Statistics will hold its first Coffee Time event of the semester with Todd Burus of the UK Markey Cancer Center Community Impact Office, who will present "Quantifying Cancer Burden, Relevant Risk Factors, and Prevention in Kentucky."

Kentucky currently has the highest rates of cancer incidence and mortality among all 50 US states. Why is this and what can we do about it? To get a handle on these questions, Markey Cancer Center’s Community Impact Office is preparing a statewide cancer needs assessment which will help inform the plans of researchers, policy makers and those involved in community-level interventions. This talk will provide an inside look at how the initial phases of the process have unfolded—from the collection of data, to its preparation, and how it gets placed into meaningful visualizations.

Email mathstat@eku.edu for Zoom information.

Event Date: September 14  5:00 p.m.  Location: Wallace 346 & Online  Cost: Free
