Philosophy and Religious Studies: Philosophy, Monstrosity, and Horror

As Halloween nears, join Dr. Joshua Lynn for a discussion of philosophy, monstrosity, and horror. Philosophers and political theorists have long used monsters to make arguments. Karl Marx warned us about vampires, conservatives depicted liberalism as Frankenstein’s monster, and Thomas Hobbes wrote about wolf-men. It turns out that monsters are pretty useful for making political and philosophical arguments. Why? Please join us for a spooky philosophical discussion during which we’ll meet all sorts of monsters and the thinkers who have been afraid of them.
