Queer and Trans Connections Movie Edition: Bessie
We're rolling out the red carpet for the film, Bessie, an award winning film about the American blues singer Bessie Smith. Played by queer woman, Queen Latifah, the film depicts the life of Bessie Smith, a hugely popular singer who was not only the highest paid Black entertainer of the day, but also beat a rival unconscious, slept with her musical director, seduced her women back up dancers, had drag queens follow her on tour, and frequented live sex shows. Free popcorn and drinks!
