The Service to Service podcast helps you understand veterans, one story at a time. Aaron Knowles began as a transportation soldier and later transitioned into Public Affairs. He and Sam discuss his current duties as a senior non-commissioned officer, but also the creativity and passion for “nerd culture” that has stretched across his nearly two decades of service. Aaron tells the story of a military friendship that led to the creation of The Oblivion Bar podcast. He talks about being a Twitch streamer, cosplaying, and his love photography. He and Sam conclude with a discussion about how creative expression serves as a therapeutic outlet and improves mental health. YouTube Link: https://youtu.be/fa4VZk1tRLU The opening presentation of the 2021-22 EKU Chautauqua series features Dr. Wade Davis, renowned cultural anthropologist, bestselling author, National Geographic explorer and Leadership Chair in Cultures and Ecosystems at Risk at the University of British Columbia. The author of 23 books, including The Wayfinders, One River and Into the Silence, Davis holds degrees in anthropology, biology and ethnobotany, all from Harvard. In 2016, he was made a Member of the Order of Canada and in 2018 he became an Honorary Citizen of Colombia. Named by the National Geographic Society as one of the Explorers for the Millennium, Dr. Davis has been described as “a rare combination of scientist, scholar, poet and passionate defender of all of life’s diversity.”

Dr. Mike Austin will present and lead discussion on the topic of "Humility and Civil Discourse: Turning Away From Anger and Toward Each Other." Dr. Austin is a professor of philosophy at EKU and author of numerous books, including Humility and Human Flourishing, God and Guns in America, and Being Good: Christian Virtues for Everyday Life. Learn the basic skills behind spending a day (or night) on the trail! We'll show you everything you need to know, from packing a backpack correctly to knowing exactly what to bring with you! You'll even receive a pre-planned outdoor trip that you can go out and do whenever you'd like!

Students should check their emergency contact information every semester and update it when necessary. To update your emergency contacts, go to EKU Direct. Click on the "Personal Information" tab. At the bottom of the list, choose "Update Emergency Contacts." When you click on that, you will see your list of contacts. If you need to add one, choose "New Contact." If you do not have any contacts, make sure you enter one. Be sure to click Submit when you have finished.

Join the staff of the EKU Counseling Center today for a Workshop on Emotional Regulation. Regardless of whether you’re at home or school, every day we can experience a wide range of emotions. This workshop will focus on the most scientifically backed methods of managing your emotions, provide activities and tools that can help you feel more grounded and in control of your emotional functioning.

Would you know what to do during a community-wide chemical emergency? Madison County, KYEM, and FEMA, have decided to conduct a limited exercise this year on 9/15/2021. Exercise play will focus on activity at the Emergency Operations Center in Madison County. For the purposes of an exercise, we won’t ask any of our populations to conduct shelter in place drills, but we want you to know that September is an excellent month to consider how you might protect yourself from a community-wide chemical release, like what could occur at the Blue Grass Army Depot. Color Coded is a safe space for students of color to express and discuss personal experiences with other EKU students of color. Grief is a normal and natural response to loss. It can also feel overwhelming, lonely, and complicated. Grief group is safe space to receive support, learn to cope, and to connect with other students who are also adjusting to the death of a friend, family member, or loved one. This weekly virtual group is provided by the EKU Counseling Center and hosted through a secure video platform. A group orientation is required to join this group. Pathfinders is an affirming weekly support group for students who are first generation college students. At EKU, a student is considered "first gen" if they are the first in their family to attend a four-year university or if neither of their parents/guardians have completed a bachelor’s degree. Some first gen students may have older siblings who have attended college. This virtual group is provided by the EKU Counseling Center and is hosted through a secure video platform.
