The 2021 EKU Natural History Seminar will be presented by Dr. Howard Whiteman.
He recently published an article in Grist Magazine to highlight the restoration of Elk populations in Kentucky as a model for regional conservation.
Dr. Whiteman is a Professor of Biological Sciences and Director of the Watershed Studies Institute at Murray State University. He teaches and conducts research in wildlife conservation biology and evolutionary ecology.
The EKU Natural History seminar is sponsored by the EKU Department of Biological Sciences, the Division of Natural Areas, and the EKU Wildlife Society student group.

Did you know that you can learn to Scuba Dive at Eastern Kentucky University? The Department of Recreation and Park Administration is offering a Discover Scuba event to introduce students who may be interested in scuba diving to some of the skills that are taught in REC-110 Confined Water Scuba Diving.
After a brief pool side or classroom safety briefing, you and your dive buddies will be fitted for a mask, fins, and a Scuba unit before entering the water with an instructor who will guide you through a few of the basic skills before you start diving!
No certification is required to participate in this Discover Scuba event. You must be a student 18 years of age or older to participate. You must also complete the SDI medical questionnaire, and liability release, provided upon arrival.

All MAT 111A/112A Students are welcome to join Dr. Blue, the Associate Director of the STEM Center for Excellence, and Steven Morgeson, a Course Embedded Consultant from the Department of Mathematics & Statistics, for a 90-minute final exam review session. We’ll provide a problem set appropriate for the second half of the course material for the review session and we’ll be available to answer as many questions as students can pose in person and via the Zoom chat function in that time. The same material will be used in each session and students are encouraged to join us as long (or as little) as their schedule permits.

Dr. Tom Butler will lead a discussion and exploration of the theological functions of the poetry of Gerard Manley Hopkins.
Dr. Butler is a Professor of English at EKU. Prior to completing his Ph.D. in Literature at Notre Dame, he majored in philosophy at Loyola College Maryland and earned an MA in philosophy at Katholieke Uninversiteit Leuven, Belgium.
This event will take place on Wednesday, October 13, 3pm-4pm in the Main Library, Room 208.

Mental Health Screening Day is an event put on by the counseling center, to help students better understand their mental health needs. During this event, EKUCC professional staff will be encouraging students to complete brief questionnaires, which will be scored with the student. Our Professional staff will review the results of the screening and provide individual feedback regarding interventions and supports that can help students better manage any identified symptoms. Join the staff of the EKU Counseling Center today for a workshop on Mindfulness. Being isolated in quarantine can lead to spending a lot of time on various activities that take your attention away from the present moment. Practicing mindfulness can be a great opportunity to improve your mental health by challenging yourself to be present and aware of your thoughts and feelings. In this workshop, you will learn tools that can help you practice mindfulness and work towards reducing and preventing stress, anxiety, depression, as well as many other concerns you may be experiencing. When a student finds themselves or another student’s safety at risk due to the use of alcohol or other drugs, they should contact the EKUPD immediately for medical assistance. Formal disciplinary action for violations of paragraphs 33, 34, and 35 of the General Regulations Concerning Student Behavior of the Student Handbook will not be enforced provided the involved students meet the criteria for amnesty.
You wont be punished for helping a friend. If someone needs medical attentional because of drugs or alcohol, they and you are protected by medical amnesty.
Just call, stay, and cooperate.
