Nicknamed the “Real-Life Lorax” by National Geographic, Dr. Margaret Lowman, known affectionately throughout the world as “Canopy Meg,” is a global pioneer in forest canopy ecology. She is one of the world’s foremost “arbornauts” — someone who explores and studies the vast forest canopies that make up what Meg has termed the Earth’s “eighth continent.” Meg Lowman is the author, co-author and editor of 9 books and over 150 scientific publications, including the major forest canopy textbooks, Forest Canopies and Methods in Forest Canopy Research, as well as field reports such as Life in the Treetops and It’s a Jungle Out There. Her much-anticipated, brand new memoir, The Arbornaut, details her adventures over a lifetime spent exploring the treetops of forests across the world. At tonight's meeting, graduate students in EKU's Clinical Psychology PsyD program will present the psycholegal concepts of sanity and competency-to-stand trial. Then, we will host a roundtable discussion of an actual criminal case that demonstrates some ways psychology and the law interact. The Department of Mathematics & Statistics and the STEM Center for Excellence invite all STA 215 students to join Dr. Sheri McGuffin for remote, open content review sessions. The sessions will consist of statistics content like what you may have completed as homework and an overview of statistical technology tools such as the TI 84 graphing calculator, Minitab and Excel. The sessions are scheduled so they may serve as a review for your STA 215 exams. Students are encouraged to submit individual questions to sheri.mcguffin@eku.edu 24 hours in advance.

The Kentucky Center for Veterans Studies (KCVS) regularly invites individuals with unique perspectives on veterans’ issues to speak to classes and the larger campus community. Join us for a talk with Moe Armstrong, a decorated Vietnam War veteran of the US Marine Corps. Mr. Armstrong uses his inspirational story of recovery to help others struggling with mental illness. He has set up peer support networks across the country, including the “Vet to Vet,” a program that uses education, peer mentoring, and writing to help those on the path to recovery. Come hear Moe’s story. He's also a musician and might just break out his guitar. All are welcome!

Did you know that you can learn to Scuba Dive at Eastern Kentucky University? The Department of Recreation and Park Administration is offering a Discover Scuba event to introduce students who may be interested in scuba diving to some of the skills that are taught in REC-110 Confined Water Scuba Diving.
After a brief pool side or classroom safety briefing, you and your dive buddies will be fitted for a mask, fins, and a Scuba unit before entering the water with an instructor who will guide you through a few of the basic skills before you start diving!
No certification is required to participate in this Discover Scuba event. You must be a student 18 years of age or older to participate. You must also complete the SDI medical questionnaire, and liability release, provided upon arrival.

Join EKUCC for one of the Fall's Biggest events, Breaking Barriers, taking place on 11/1 at 5PM in Case Plaza
At this event students are invited to write on a piece of wood what they want to overcome/break through during the semester. They are then shown how to break the board with their fist with the help of a professional martial artist! In order to be eligible to break the board, students must talk to each table present at the event.
Limited supply T-Shirts will be available on a first-come first-serve basis for students that complete the activity.
