Believe it or not, the first widely available open access (OA) journals began appearing in the early 1990s, as the internet as we know it launched. Physicists led the way with arXiv.org. At EKU, we published our first OA journal in 2012 when faculty from the College of Education worked with us to publish the Kentucky Journal of Excellence in College Teaching and Learning (KJECTL) in Encompass. Since its first publication, articles from KJECTL have been downloaded over 46,800 times by readers from 172 countries (see https://tinyurl.com/KJECTLdownloads)! The top article is "School Culture, Equity, and Student Academic Performance in a Rural Appalachian School" (Roger Cleveland, et al), with 4,335 downloads to date. Event Date: October 26
