Held each year on Veterans Day at Powell Corner, the National Roll Call pays tribute to our American military servicemembers and civilians who have made the ultimate sacrifice over the past two decades during the Global War on Terror. By reading aloud the names of our fallen, it serves as an opportunity for the campus and local community to participate and show their commitment and support for these heroes. Students are encouraged to volunteer as a reader for the National Roll Call on Thursday, November 11. Each volunteer will read 120 names. The Kentucky Center for Veterans Studies (KCVS) regularly invites individuals with unique perspectives on veterans’ issues to speak to the campus community. Join us for a talk with Jeremy Harrell, a U.S. Army veteran of the Iraq War. After serving as a non-commissioned officer, Harrell studied Business Management and worked in the Supply Chain Logistics industry. He later founded Veteran’s Club Inc. in Louisville, KY. This non-profit has served thousands of transitioning veterans by providing career counseling, therapeutic interventions, job opportunities, and various outreach initiatives for the homeless. Harrell has been featured on national and local news outlets and is considered a subject matter expert on numerous topics impacting the veteran community. Register where it says “More” below. This year, EKU will offer a six-week, fully online Winter session. EKU Winter is the ideal time to take courses that allow you to catch up or stay caught up, take a challenging course, or enroll in a required course. Registration has begun. EKU Winter is offering scholarships to help defray costs of taking courses. Apply online at https://winter.eku.edu/winter-microscholarship-application. Application deadline is Oct. 26.

The Service to Service podcast helps you understand veterans, one story at a time. On this episode Samuel Lewis sits down with special guest and quintessential example of post-traumatic growth, BriGette McCoy. She discusses her military career and life after service as a survivor of Military Sexual Trauma (MST). As founder of the Women Veteran Social Justice Network, she is nationally recognized as an advocate for women veterans and veterans of color. She has testified in front of Congress, been featured on major news outlets, and is regularly invited as a speaker at institutions and events around the country. Did you know that you can learn to Scuba Dive at Eastern Kentucky University? The Department of Recreation and Park Administration is offering a Discover Scuba event to introduce students who may be interested in scuba diving to some of the skills that are taught in REC-110 Confined Water Scuba Diving. After a brief pool side or classroom safety briefing, you and your dive buddies will be fitted for a mask, fins, and a Scuba unit before entering the water with an instructor who will guide you through a few of the basic skills before you start diving! No certification is required to participate in this Discover Scuba event. You must be a student 18 years of age or older to participate. EKU CIS Student Club Meeting -- Next week is EKU Fall Break. Please enjoy some time with family; try to get outside for a hike or a bike ride. EKU Latino Heritage Month 2021 - 10th Anniversary. EKU's annual Latino Heritage Month festivities celebrate the Latino/Latina/Latinx cultures and communities on EKU Campus and beyond. Keynote speaker & Chautauqua Lecturer Dr. Cristobal Salinas Jr. will present "Navigating Latinx/*: Challenging Norms of Language, Patriarchy, and Gender." Dr. Salinas is Associate Professor at Florida Atlantic University, exploring social and political context of education opportunities for historically marginalized communities. Join the staff of the EKU Counseling Center today for a Workshop on Emotional Regulation. Regardless of whether you’re at home or school, every day we can experience a wide range of emotions. This workshop will focus on the most scientifically backed methods of managing your emotions, provide activities and tools that can help you feel more grounded and in control of your emotional functioning.

Start from Now is a group to support those dealing with body image issues and/or disordered eating patterns through a blend of education and discussion. This is a weekly virtual group provided by the EKU Counseling Center and hosted through a secure video platform. A group orientation is required to join this group. Join the staff of the EKU Counseling Center today for a Workshop on organization and planning. The organization and planning module of the Feel Better Fast series will be aimed to help establish a routine to help with managing your day. We will work to establish a daily schedule to help you plan and prioritize your day. Additionally, we will brainstorm ways to increase your motivation and make it easier to initiate tasks, while hopefully making your day more enjoyable.
