Today for Open Access Week, we are highlighting Open Research. Thanks to federal Open Access mandates, most publishers allow authors to publish their pre-prints and anonymized research data for open access. Hundreds of EKU students have published their research openly in our Encompass digital archive. Two collections of note are the University Presentation Showcase: Graduate Poster Gallery and the University Presentation Showcase: Undergraduate Poster Gallery which display the student posters from EKU Scholars Week.

As Halloween nears, join Dr. Joshua Lynn for a discussion of philosophy, monstrosity, and horror. Philosophers and political theorists have long used monsters to make arguments. Karl Marx warned us about vampires, conservatives depicted liberalism as Frankenstein’s monster, and Thomas Hobbes wrote about wolf-men. It turns out that monsters are pretty useful for making political and philosophical arguments. Why? Please join us for a spooky philosophical discussion during which we’ll meet all sorts of monsters and the thinkers who have been afraid of them. Event Date: October 26; 3:30PM-4:30PM Location: Main Library 208 Cost: Free
