National Sickle Cell Awareness Month Blood Drive

The American Red Cross will be hosting the National Sickle Cell Awareness Month Blood Drive, in the Powell Building, today from 12 PM - 05 PM. National Sickle Cell Awareness Month calls attention to sickle cell disease, a genetic disease that affects between 90,000 and 100,000 Americans. While there is no cure, the painful symptoms of this disease can be prevented by regular blood transfusions.

The Red Cross tag sickle cell donations specifically through the following process: When donating, you can ask for your blood to be marked with a tag designating donations for patients with Sickle Cell Disease. If a patient with Sickle Cell Disease does not need blood at this time, it will not be wasted; it will go to another patient in need. African American donors are the ethnic group most affected by Sickle Cell disease. That is why they are especially needed for this special program.

Event Date: September 15  12:00 pm - 5:00 pm  Location: Powell Student Center, Kennamer Room
