Author Carter Sickels to read and discuss THE EVENING HOUR

Join the Appalachian Studies & Women and Gender Studies Programs for a reading and discussion of the 2012 novel THE EVENING HOUR with author Carter Sickels.

In the first few pages, Cole Freeman reveals his complicated nature by gently comforting the old people in the nursing home where he works, and then promptly pilfering their belongings. As the blasting continues behind his family's homeplace, Cole's prescription drug business takes him through the hollers of Dove Creek, West Virginia, where we meet his suppliers and customers-- including an openly gay ex-con, and a myriad of old-timers, war veterans, and church goers.

Sickels is a visiting assistant professor of creative writing at EKU, and winner of Lambda Literary's Emerging Writers Award for the best LGBTQ book of the year.

Light refreshments will be served.
