1098-T 2017 Changes

Recent IRS changes to reporting requirements for schools will result in changes to your 2017 1098T. In the past, spring charges were reported in the tax year that the student registered for classes. For example, if you registered for spring 2016 classes in December 2015, those charges would have been reported on the 2015 1098T. For the 2017 1098T’s, payments including scholarships and grants, as well as eligible charges will be reported on the form for the year the courses were actually taken. For many students, this will result in your 2017 1098-T only reflecting one semester (Fall 2017). This is not an error. Spring 2018 will be reflected on your 2018 1098-T.

Please note, you should always consult your tax advisor with regard to these issues and Eastern Kentucky University is in no way providing tax advice or planning assistance.
