Dr. Chris Impey, Distinguished Professor of Astronomy at the University of Arizona and a prolific author, will share his vision of humanity’s future in space in his Chautauqua lecture, “What If We Live Off-Earth? Exploring Our Future in Space,” TONIGHT, Thurs. Feb. 4, at 7:30 p.m. in O'Donnell Hall. Free and open to the public. Attendance slips will be provided. Dr. Impey is the author of many notable books, including the 2015 New York Times Editor’s Choice book "Beyond: Our Future in Space" as well as "Humble Before the Void," "How It Began: A Time-Traveler’s Guide to the Universe," and "Encountering Life in the Universe." There are still books available and plenty of time to read the first two chapters before the first book salon on Wednesday, Feb 11! Diversity Book Salon's spring read is Blind Spot: Hidden Biases of Good People, by Mahzarin R. Banaji and Anthony G. Greenwald. Blind Spot is the authors' metaphor for the portion of the mind that houses hidden biases. We all have them, created from a lifetime of exposure to cultural attitudes about age, gender, race, ethnicity, religion, social class, sexuality, disability status and nationality.
