Joy Harjo, internationally known poet, performer and educator, will present the Native American Heritage Month Keynote Address, “Conflict Resolution for Holy Beings,” on Thurs Nov 3 at 7:30 pm in O’Donnell Hall of the Whitlock Building. Harjo, of the Mvskoke/Creek nation, is the author of eight poetry collections, including "Conflict Recolution," "How We Became Human," "The Woman Who Fell from the Sky," and "She Had Some Horses," and the acclaimed memoir, "Crazy Brave." Harjo has received many awards for her work, most recently the 2015 Wallace Stevens Award from the Academy of American Poets for "proven mastery in the art of poetry." Harjo is also a renowned musician, playing saxophone solo and with her band, The Arrow Dynamics, nationally and internationally. Her CD release, "Winding Through the Milky Way,” won the Native American Music Award for Best Female Artist of the Year 2009.

The Office of Military & Veteran Affairs would like to invite all students to attend the National Roll Call Reading of Names and the 2016 Veterans Day Ceremony on Friday, November 11. National Roll Call will take place from 6:00 am - 1:30 pm in Powell Plaza in front of the Veterans Memorial, where we will read aloud the names of our fallen heroes. If you would like to volunteer to read names in a 15 minute slot, please click on the web link to submit your volunteer form. The Veterans Day ceremony will begin after National Roll Call at 1:40 pm. Please join us as we honor our nation's veterans.

The Department of Languages, Cultures, & Humanities presents New Arrivals: Refugee Resettlement in Lexington, KY (A Lexington Public Library Documentary made in partnership with Kentucky Refugee Ministries) followed by a Q&A with Kentucky Refugee Ministries’ Lexington Director Mary Cobb. The film screening will be accompanied by a French Club bake sale, with all proceeds going to the Kentucky Refugee Ministries.
