SENIORS!! To be eligible for Fall 2017 student teaching, you MUST complete an online application. The application will automatically open at midnight on February 1st and close at midnight on February 15th. The application will be on EKU Direct under the Student Services and Financial Aid tab. It will be the 10th folder. Once you have submitted the forms, go the the board of education at the county of your FIRST preference and have a background check completed. The African/African American Studies Program at EKU invites all EKU undergraduate students to present their creative and scholarly works at the AFA Writing Awards event, April 13 12-2pm Walnut Hall. Submissions must be a significant historical/contemporary issue, idea, movement, art, event, country, individual, institution, or group that promotes a better understanding of the black experience throughout the U.S., Africa, Europe, Caribbean, etc. Any piece completed during Fall 2016 and Spring 2017 is welcome. Submissions formats include: Research essay/report, PowerPoint presentation, Studio-based artwork, Creative prose, Poetry, Creative nonfiction essay, Culturally based artistic performance in music/dance/theatre. EKU professors are encouraged to nominate relevant student essays. Gift cards for First, Second, and Third place will be awarded.

Eastern Kentucky University will be hosting The 7th Annual Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. Celebration on Wednesday, January 25th. This year’s theme is “The Courage to Live His Dream”. Please join us for an evening of food and fellowship as we share the message of Dr. King. This year’s keynote speaker will be the Honorable Reginald Thomas, Senator from Kentucky’s 13th State Senate District. The program will begin at 6:00pm in Keen Johnson Ballroom. The doors will be open at 5:30pm. Funding is available for three award types: Travel Awards (up to $500 each), Supplies Awards (up to $100 each), and Poster Grants (up to $50 each).
