EKU Chautauqua presents Bianca Spriggs, giving the annual Black History Month Keynote, "The Only Way Out Is Within: A Poet's Path to Surrender," Thurs. Feb. 9, 7:30 pm in O'Donnell Hall. Free and open to the public. Attendance slips provided.
Affrilachian Poet, Cave Canem Fellow, multidisciplinary artist, and a PhD candidate at UK, Bianca Spriggs of Lexington is the author of 5 acclaimed books of poetry, including Kaffir Lily (2010), How Swallowtails Become Dragons (2011), Call Her By Her Name (2016), The Galaxy Is a Dance Floor (2016) and Undead: Ghouls, Ghosts, and More (2017). Named one of the Top 30 Performance Poets in the country by The Root, Bianca is also the recipient of the 2016 Sallie Bingham Award, a 2013 Al Smith Individual Artist Fellowship in Poetry, Artist Enrichment and Arts Meets Activism grants from the Kentucky Foundation for Women, and a Pushcart Prize Nominee. College can be one of the most stressful times in a person’s life. When stressed, we often turn to dangerous habits that can be hard to break. Disordered eating and eating disorders are frequently the outcomes of our stress. We invite any individuals who struggle with food or body image to attend our group.
The Psychology Department and the Counseling Department are conducting a semester-long processing and psychoeducational group. Sessions will take place every Wednesday from 1:00-2:30 pm beginning February 22nd, 2017 and will continue on a weekly basis.
If you are interested, please contact the EKU Psychology Clinic to set up an appointment to complete an initial screening and intake interview. You can call anytime between 8:00 am to 4:30 pm, Monday – Friday. The EKU Psychology Clinic phone number is (859)- 622-2356. The Clinic is located in the basement of the Cammack Building in room 5.
