Bunraku Bay Puppet Theater, the only troupe in the US that performs the traditional Japanese puppetry, will present an evening of puppet theater on stage and a screening of the short film “Kaiju Bunraku” (14 minutes), one of the films selected for the 2017 Sundance Film Festival, which features the artistry of Bunraku Bay. Free and open to the public, the performance will begin at 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday, March 28 at the O’Donnell Hall of the Whitlock Building. It will feature five pieces of traditional Japanese puppetry suitable for all ages, kindergarten and up, followed by a screening of “Kaiju Bunraku” and a Q&A, including an opportunity for audience members to see the puppets close up. This is a great time of year to hear woodcock calling and to see their amazing display flights at Taylor Fork Ecological Area. There will be a field trip on Tuesday March 21 at 7:00pm to observe displaying woodcock. There are numerous birds at the site. They begin calling and displaying after sunset. Binoculars are not necessary.
The trip will take approximately 1 hour.
Please dress for the weather. The paths are mowed, you will require sturdy walking shoes.
Directions: Taylor Fork Ecological Area is adjacent to south campus. Take Kit Carson Dr to McKinney Skills Dr, then follow the dirt road on the right through the gate. Come join graduate students, Davy Black and Logan Phelps, at EKU’s natural area Taylor Fork Ecological Area to learn about streams and observe the methods of electrofishing and macroinvertebrate sampling. Her current project is entitled, “The Poetry of Witness," which includes poems and a song written in response to our collective moment—some inspired by the media and others by children Lyon has met on school visits.
