The deadline for registering for ONE or BOTH days of Earth Days Eastern Kentucky Service Weekend is this Wednesday, April 19th. On Friday April 21st, we will be helping local community members collect stream samples in the North Fork of the Kentucky River. On Saturday April 22nd, we'll join writers and artists from across Kentucky to plant trees on formerly mined lands in Robinson Forest. If you sign up for BOTH, overnight lodging at EKU's Lilley Cornett Woods bunkhouse, all transportation, and three meals will be provided for just $15.00!

Are you interested in conservation, waterfowl, or simply getting involved with YOUR student chapter of The Wildlife Society? Dr. Cynthia Williams Resor, professor of social studies education, will talk about her new book, "Exploring Vacation and Etiquette Themes in Social Studies, Primary Source Inquiry for Middle and High School." This book introduces a thematic approach to social history that connects the past to the daily lives of students. Refreshments and proof of attendance will be provided.

On Wednesday, April 19, at 12:20 p.m., in conjunction with the testing of the Outdoor Warning Sirens and our Rave Alerts, two of our classes from the College of Justice and Safety will participate in a Shelter-in-Place drill, as though a simulated chemical were released from the Blue Grass Army Depot. Their exercise play will involve a group of students moving to the Enhanced Shelter-in-Place Buildings, activating the Collective Protection Systems, simulating locking the doors at a prescribed time, and posting mock “Stop – Sheltered In Place” signs at some entrances. This exercise will be prompted by the test alerts and will not disrupt the normal operations of the University. If you are interested in voluntarily participating in this exercise, feel free to join us by moving to one of the Enhanced Shelter-in-Place Buildings when you receive the test alerts.

Students from the NOVA Program GSD 225S Leadership Dynamics and Service Learning course are collecting spring and summer clothing for the Grace Now clothing pantry from now until April 24th. The College of Health Sciences Scholars Day was established as a way to showcase students and their research. The 3rd annual CHS Scholars Day is scheduled for Tuesday, April 18, 2017 at the EKU Center for the Arts.
Approximately 125 students will be presenting their research projects during the event in one of three categories. These are: 1) Traditional Research Poster; 2) Discipline Application/Innovation Poster; and 3) Case Study Poster.
