African/African-American Studies is going to Washington D.C. October 15-17th. Join us as we visit the National Museum of African American History and Culture and the National Mall. Bestselling author and sociologist Sara Goldrick-Rab will discuss “The Transformation of Higher Education: The New Economics of College and Their Consequences,” Thurs. Sept 7, 7:30 p.m. in O’Donnell Hall, in the first lecture of the 2017-18 Chautauqua "Transformations" series. Free and open to the public. Attendance slips provided. Hailed as “one of the top 50 people shaping American politics” (Politico Magazine), Sara Goldrick-Rab is the author of “Paying the Price: College Costs, Financial Aid, and the Betrayal of the American Dream.” She has been featured on The Daily Show with Trevor Noah, in the New York Review of Books and on CSPAN’s Book TV. She is the founder of the Wisconsin HOPE Lab (Harvesting Opportunities for Postsecondary Education), dedicated to finding innovative ways to make college more affordable and accessible. The lecture is sponsored by the EKU President’s Office.

The Noel Studio seeks to fill a graduate assistant position starting this fall! The goal of this position is to provide research and assessment assistance for the Teaching & Learning Center and the Noel Studio for Academic Creativity. The student will serve as campus liaison for major faculty development events, conduct research and assessment on events such as the Teaching & Learning Innovation Series, serve as Editorial Assistant for the national Journal of Faculty Development, and contribute minimal support, technological and otherwise, for related programming and events. There is will be a weekly tournament for Smash Bros. 4 every Thursday during the Fall semester. There will be both a free bracket and a pay to enter bracket. The winners of the paid bracket will receive cash payout and the winner of the free bracket will receive free entry into the paid bracket the following week. The brackets will be double elimination. It is recommended to bring your own controller, but there will be spare GameCube controllers for participants to use.

Join the Office of Sustainability for the 2nd annual #EKULocal Festival! The festival will showcase local and sustainable goods and services available on campus and in the Richmond community. The festival will host local craftspeople, artisans, and farmers, food trucks, fun activities and live music from Brother Smith! Bring cash, an appetite, and a lawn chair to sit and enjoy the tunes!

EKU Libraries will be bringing the library out of the building and we’ll have some of our best popular books and movies with us for you to check out. Stop by and see us tomorrow.

The Block is Hot! Come out for a soul food cookout with the ladies of Minority Collegiate Connections. There is no cost to attend. However there is a charge per plate of food: $5 and comes with 3 wings, homemade mac n cheese , baked beans, and a drink. Hope to see you there.

In honor of the Labor Day holiday, the John Grant Crabbe Main Library will observe special hours this weekend. The Main Library will be open 11 a.m.-6 p.m., Saturday, Sept. 2 and Sunday, Sept. 3, and 11 a.m.-1 a.m. Monday, Sept. 4. The online application for Student Teaching for Spring 2018 will be automatically open at 12:00 midnight on September 1 and will only be open for 2 weeks!! This is the only way to apply for student teaching and to list your preferences for school districts. Please talk to your professors and advisors about this deadline.

Football Pick 'em Registration ENDS TONIGHT! Think you know college or pro football? Test your skills and join the NCAA or NFL Football Pick 'Em league! Contestants will pick the winners from a list of college or Pro football games each week. The winner at the end of the season will be the contestant who selects the most games correct!
