Bestselling author and sociologist Sara Goldrick-Rab will discuss “The Transformation of Higher Education: The New Economics of College and Their Consequences,” TONIGHT, Sept 7, 7:30 pm, in O’Donnell Hall in the first lecture of the 2017-18 Chautauqua "Transformations" series. Free and open to the public. Attendance slips provided. Hailed as “one of the top 50 people shaping American politics” (Politico Magazine), Sara Goldrick-Rab is the author of “Paying the Price: College Costs, Financial Aid, and the Betrayal of the American Dream.” She has been featured on The Daily Show with Trevor Noah, in the New York Review of Books and on CSPAN’s Book TV. She is the founder of the Wisconsin HOPE Lab (Harvesting Opportunities for Postsecondary Education), dedicated to finding innovative ways to make college more affordable and accessible. The lecture is sponsored by the EKU President’s Office.

On Friday, September 8th there will be 2 events on campus which will impact commuter parking. Alumni Coliseum Commuter Lot: A section of the west side of A.C. commuter parking lot will be reserved for Model's Grandparent's Day (approximately 100 spaces). John Hanlon Commuter Lot: The John Hanlon commuter parking lot will be reserved for the ribbon cutting for the Eastern Scholar House. There will be commuter parking in the A.C. commuter lot thru out the day on Fridays which will be able to accommodate the parking needs of valid EKU commuter permit holders. Please use caution when driving in these areas. There will be many visitor not familiar with campus parking or traffic patterns.

We are happy to announce that the College of Letters, Arts, & Social Sciences (CLASS) is offering a $500 stipend to a graduating student to present a commencement speech at the Fall 2017 Graduation Ceremony! To be eligible, you must have applied for Fall 2017 Graduation within CLASS. •Speeches should be about 5-6 minutes in length/4-6 pages of double-spaced text.
•MSWord or Rich Text Format, double-spaced, in 12-point Times New Roman font, with normal one-inch margins
•At the top of your text, please include your full name, EKU ID number, major, expected degree, and department. Submit speeches before the end of the day Friday, October 13, by sending an e-mail attachment of the text to Dr. Amy Thieme (amy.thieme@eku.edu). Please include your available times for October 27, between 2:00 & 4:00 p.m. so that, if you are chosen as a finalist, we can schedule your interview.
