Omer Kanat is a Uyghur human rights activist and director of the Uyghur Human Rights Project (UHRP), a research-based Uyghur human rights advocacy organization. The Uyghurs, Uighurs, or Uygurs are a Turkic ethnicity who live in East and Central Asia. Today, Uyghurs live primarily in the People’s Republic of China, where they are one of fifty-five officially recognized ethnic minorities. The fifth-most-populous ethnic group in China, they face governmental campaigns seeking to “re-educate” them in detention camps in an effort to gain tighter control of the resource-rich regions inhabited by the ethnic Uyghurs. Co-sponsored by EKU Department of Languages, Cultures, & Humanities; Department of History, EKU Asian Studies Program; and the Inner Asian and Uralic National Resource Center at Indiana University, Bloomington (IAUNRC).

Centered is a skill building therapy group that uses acceptance and commitment therapy and mindfulness to manage stress, build resilience, and create the life you want. The first group will run for approximately 10 weeks and last for an hour per session. Screenings will be conducted until openings are filled. Did you know your Vet Success Counselor visits the Student Success Center, which is located below the first floor of the Crabbe Library every Wednesday from 11:00 am to 12:30 pm, to answer all your VA benefit related questions? Steve Johnson will be at the Student Success Center today starting at 11:00 am, so he can answer benefit questions, assist with tutoring help, give assistance through the food pantry, and any other needs you have on campus. Additionally, if you are running out of Post 9-11 benefits and have a service connected disability, he can assist with another program. Event Speaker: Dr. Qin Zhao from WKU It has been argued that the high achievement of Confucian Asian students is at the cost of their psychological well-being, since high self-doubt consistently accompanies their high achievement. However, other researchers cautioned that the attitude toward self-doubt could be different in Asian versus Western cultures. This talk will examine the idea of self-doubt through a survey of both American and Chinese college students. (Event will count for SONA credit for Psychology students)
