In order to provide students in Spanish courses with more spaces to practice their language skills, the Languages, Cultures & Humanities Department is launching a new Spanish Film Series. The first film in the series is director Marc Silver and acclaimed actor Gael García Bernal's film "¿Quien es Dayani Cristal?" (Who is Dayani Cristal?). Films will be shown in their original language with English subtitles and will be briefly introduced by a faculty member. Following the movie there will be a short Q&A session. Dr. Timothy Smit will lead our final discussion of the semester on a topic in the history of the philosophy of science. What were the debates surrounding experiment and knowledge-making during the Scientific Revolution in the seventeenth century? Drawing on the book by Steven Shapin and Simon Schaffer of the same title, we will discuss factions of the Royal Society and their arguments about the connections (or lack thereof) between the new experimental science and natural philosophy.
