With more than 500 million native speakers, Spanish is one of the most studied languages in the world and the second most spoken in the US. This workshop co-hosted by Dr. Javier Alvarez from the Department of Languages, Cultures & Humanities at EKU and Dr. Sharrah Lane from the University of Kentucky will feature six guest speakers, graduated with a Spanish degree who will present students with reasons to study it and discuss job market opportunities as well as advise for a successful career. KY READY Corps, a Kentucky AmeriCorps program, seeks dedicated, passionate-about-service individuals interested in serving in disaster preparedness projects at Kentucky non-profit, government, educational and community programs and organizations. Site projects are in alignment with our mission to strengthen emergency/disaster readiness and resilience in Kentucky communities, especially in vulnerable individuals, and our AmeriCorps program is well placed to assist communities with the COVID-19 crisis. Beyond Labels is an affirming support group for students who have and/or are questioning having LGBTQ* identities. This is a weekly virtual support group provided by the EKU Counseling Center. Pathfinders is an affirming weekly support group for students who are first generation college students. At EKU, a student is considered "first gen" if they are the first in their family to attend a four-year university or if neither of their parents/guardians have completed a bachelor’s degree. Some first gen students may have older siblings who have attended college. This virtual group is provided by the EKU Counseling Center and is hosted through a secure video platform. Are you graduating from the College of Letters, Arts, and Social Sciences (CLASS) next semester? Do you have a career goal in mind for what comes after? Have you ever wondered if teaching might be your next step? If teaching is a pathway you want to explore, CLASS has partnered with Model Laboratory School and the College of Ed to design a brand new course experience that lets you see teaching from the other side of the desk! You’ll get to work with a mentor-teacher at Model Laboratory School for a set number of hours each week in the spring semester. You'll practice teaching and facilitating meaningful learning experiences with middle and high school students. Join the EKU Counseling Center staff today for a workshop on Distress Tolerance. When life feels like you’re currently in the middle of an unfinished Jumanji game, your emotions can activate with a high degree of intensity. Changes in your daily routine and the people you’re around can lead to a mixture of emotions. These new experiences can be stressful. The tools provided in this workshop are aimed to provide you with skills to navigate these intense emotions and increase the positive experiences throughout your day.
